There is a considerable likelihood that France could elect another radical president, either Jean-Luc Mélenchon, representing the radical left, or Marine Le Pen, the right-wing populist. The current serious and highly violent so-called “student protests” may offer a foretaste of what lies ahead: France could become politically unstable and less predictable in the aftermath of next year’s presidential elections.
